Story Walk or Wool Sock Walk on the Kalajoki Sand Dunes

Welcome to join us for a pleasant storytelling walk on the Kalajoki Sand Dunes. Enjoy sandy beaches or snow-covered dunes depending on the season—this is a slow, easy experience designed to suit the changing Arctic coastal landscape.
The route takes us through the dunes, along duckboards and the shoreline, and, if conditions allow in Winter, out onto the frozen sea. The walk covers approximately three kilometres and lasts about two hours.
Along the way, we share stories about Kalajoki and the sand dune area, reflect on the changing seasons, the freezing of the sea, and the marine nature of the Bothnian Bay. You will also hear about everyday life on the Arctic coast from a local perspective. A warm drink and a local snack are enjoyed during the walk.
On frosty winter days, this experience can be enjoyed as a Wool Sock Walk: slip on four pairs of wool socks and feel the winter landscape beneath your feet, all the way to your soles. If needed, we can provide wool socks.
Starting point: Confirmed upon reservation; a central location in the Kalajoki Sand Dunes area.
Note: In Winter, if temperatures are above freezing and the snow is wet, the storytelling walk will be done wearing shoes. Please dress according to the weather. The Story Walk is available year-round; the Wool Sock Walk is seasonal and weather-dependent.
