Destination Coordination Services

Our destination coordination services are available to DMCs, international tour operators, and local tourism companies.

Examples of destination coordination services

  • searching for local service providers suitable for the guests
  • welcoming groups/guests in Kalajoki
  • other hosting, e.g. helping with transfers and guiding services in connection with transfers
  • assisting travelers at the location
  • other necessary support on site

Pricing: starting from 50 euros/hour (VAT 0%)

Upon agreement, destination coordination services can also be extended to other locations on the arctic coast or in Finland - the use of a car, per diems, and other occurred expenses will be charged separately.

Local Guides

Local Guide & Excursion Services

Our guiding services include

  • a day with a local - get to know the local way of life at the arctic coast
  • story walks in English, German or Swedish: for example the Sand Dune area (Hiekkasärkät) and the Old Town of Kalajoki (Plassi)
  • story walks and trips to Siiponjoki River Valley and Vihaslahti Nature Trail (on foot or by bikes)
  • wool sock walks around the Sand Dune area and on the frozen sea
  • guided bus tours in Kalajoki 

During the walks and tours we tell you about Kalajoki and Finland, about the history and present, and of course about the local nature and way of living.

On cycling trips we stop by a lean-to and enjoy some traditional Finnish snacks on a campfire.

For variour group sizes or even individual guests! Our services are available around the year - activities can be adjusted e.g. by snow and ice conditions.

From the warm glow of an open fire to the crispness of the sea breeze, the locals inspire every moment by their deep connection to their surroundings. 

What Your Day Might Include: While each experience is shaped by the season and weather, here's a glimpse of what awaits: 

 • Coastal stories and traditions. Learn about life on the Arctic Coast and marvel at the natural phenomenon of land rising in the Rahja Archipelago.
• Seasonal moments. Whether it's berry picking, playing the traditional yard game mölkky, walking on the frozen sea, or trying a wool sock walk, there's always something special to enjoy – whatever the season allows.
• Delicious simplicity: Savor a Finnish-style soup lunch, followed, of course, by a comforting cup of coffee or tea.
• Relaxation and tradition. Experience the Finnish way of unwinding with a sauna and, if you're feeling adventurous, a dip in the sea or a roll in the snow.
• A touch of Finnish: Dive into a light-hearted introduction to the Finnish language, sprinkled with stories about Finnish culture and the secrets of Finnish happiness.

A Day with a Local

A Day with a Local in Kalajoki on the Arctic Coast

We are proud to present you with an authentic way of living on the Arctic Coast, including our favorite places in our hometown. This is the closest you can get to discovering the true lifestyle of the locals! Depending on customers's wishes the timetable can be adjusted with other programs they might have in the area, and all wishes are taken into consideration.

Here is an example of what the day can include:
• Get to know the city of Kalajoki and its 500-year-old history in short – walking tour in the old town of Plassi and in the city center
• Saily shopping for groceries at a local supermarket
• Visit a local home with a Finnish coffee break – a sweet and savory snack will be served with coffee/tea/juice
• Experience the combination of seaside and forest in one of Kalajoki's many nature destinations – depending on the weather the coffee break can also take place in the middle of nature
• Seasonal flavors like a wool-sock walk, walking on the ice, berry picking, cold dip…
• Visit a 50-year-old local pottery, with the possibility to see the studio and buy local souvenirs.

The meeting address will be confirmed upon booking.
Option: if the tour takes place on Wednesday or Saturday in the evening, a Village Sauna experience at Linnakallio can be included in the program.

Local authenticity – home visits in Kalajoki

Looking for an authentic home visit during your stay in Kalajoki? We can make your dream come true and invite you for a heartwarming visit at a local home!

Let us show you our hospitality! Kalajoki 360° offers home visits to pre-selected and reliable family homes around the year.

The visit includes a typical and tasty Finnish coffee break upon which the guests learn about the genuine local way of living and maybe some Finnish language with a local twist, too. 

The local guide of Kalajoki 360° always accompanies the guests on their visits and helps with interaction. Upon request, a home visit can be combined with a Finnish sauna – with snacks and refreshments as tradition.

Guided Tours in Kalajoki with a Local Guide

Getting to know a new destination is best done with a local guide. This also applies to Kalajoki with its many features – including the arctic seaside, pine forests, and idyllic villages.

The local guides of Kalajoki 360°, Helena and Sanna, are happy to present the history and present of their hometown.

Examples of our tour services:

2-hour tour:
The tour starts from the Kalajoki Sand Dunes and drives through the Old Town of Plassi and the city center, followed by the nearby villages Pitkäsenkylä, Tynkä and Etelänkylä on both sides of the River Kalajoki.

The two-hour tour includes two stops: one in the charming surroundings of the old town area, and another at the 50-year-old pottery Iso-Pahkala, where you can find locally handcrafted souvenirs. 

3-hour tour:
Would you prefer not only to see but also to feel nature? This tour takes you to local nature destinations in the middle of the tall pine forests such as Siiponjoki River Valley (or Vihaslahti Bird Tower) with a coffee break in nature, berry picking in summer/autumn, tree-hugging and a short Finnish lesson – be prepared for some hiking, too.

The Kalajoki 360° local guide services are available around the year. Service languages: English, German, and Swedish. The price does not include the bus. We can recommend a local bus company if needed.

A route for orienteering around Hiekkasärkät

We built an easy orienteering route in Hiekkasärkät area for anyone to use at any time! The route takes you around the area and guides you through a wide variety of services and activities.
The starting and finishing point is at Tapion Tupa. All the stops have a tip in writing and GoogleMap coordinates to the next stop to find. In addition, we added a photo of each stop. The route is easily accessible, especially during summer time. Welcome to discover Hiekkasärkät!
