Values and Sustainability

Kalajoki 360° – Hosting with Feeling

For us, sustainability is more than just a word – it's a way of working every single day. When we design experiences, we do it in a way that ensures nature, local life, and cultural heritage will thrive also in the future.

Our sustainability plan has been created as part of the Bothnian Coastal Route project. The plan follows the Bothnian Coastal Route Sustainability Method, which is based on the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This gives us an internationally recognized framework, but the content itself grows from our roots in Kalajoki and from our way of welcoming guests – with warmth and authenticity.

A. Planned sustainability work

(Clear direction and continuous development)

For us, sustainability is a continuous process, not a single act. We develop our services systematically, monitor our impacts, and collect feedback from our guests. We have a written sustainability plan that we update and evaluate regularly. This ensures that Kalajoki 360° grows on a sustainable foundation – and that travelers can trust our commitment also in the future.

We are also take actively part of regional networks such as Visit Arctic Coast and the Bothnian Coastal Route. Through these, international tour operators can easily combine our services into wider travel packages – supporting not only our own growth but also the attractiveness of the whole region.

B. Maximizing benefits and minimizing negative impacts for the local community

(Supporting local life and livelihoods)

We work closely with local producers, entrepreneurs, and associations. This might mean offering local products during coffee breaks, sharing stories with locals, or creating experiences together. In this way, the benefits of tourism stay in the area and strengthen its vitality.

At the same time, we make sure that our activities do not disturb everyday life. We operate with small groups, respect the peace of local residents, and guide our guests to act responsibly while visiting.

C. Maximizing benefits and minimizing negative impacts for cultural heritage

(Keeping traditions alive and respected)

Kalajoki 360° brings travelers close to the local way of life – whether through a traditional smoke sauna and icy dip, campfire coffee, or storytelling walks on the sand dunes. We share our real lives openly but ensure that local culture remains authentic and does not turn into a performance for visitors.

Our cooperation with local associations and cultural sites helps preserve traditions. We want every encounter to enrich both the traveler and the local community.

D. Maximizing benefits and minimizing negative impacts for the environment

(Respecting and protecting nature)

Nature is at the heart of every Kalajoki 360° experience. That is why we take care to keep our footprint as light as possible. On our trips, we use marked trails, recycle waste, and avoid disposable materials. In food and drinks, we favor local and seasonal products.

We also share knowledge about our environment – from the unique land uplift of the Bothnian Bay to the fragile ecosystems of the coast. We believe that understanding leads to appreciation, and that each experience should also be a moment of learning and connection with nature.

In summary

Kalajoki 360° operates in line with its values and with responsibility: systematically, supporting the local community, cherishing culture, and respecting nature.

When you choose us, you can trust that every experience is built on a sustainable foundation and genuine warmth – hosting with feeling.
